airBaltic launches direct flights to St. Petersburg

At the end of last year airBaltic added a new important eastbound destination to its schedule of direct flights. From the middle of December Latvian airline now flies directly to Russia’s second largest business centre – St. Petersburg. This makes a current total of 21 direct flights from Riga in the airline’s network of routes and the second direct route to Russia – airBaltic also flies to the capital Moscow.

Commenting on the launch of the new destination, airBaltic President Bertolt Flick said, “We are pleased that we can expand the network of airBaltic routes not only to the West, but also to the East. The Russian market will always be important to Latvia, and I am convinced that direct airBaltic flights to and from St. Petersburg will serve the interests of Russia’s and Latvia’s business circles. We also think that this route will help to promote tourism between Latvia and Russia.”

Historically St. Petersburg has been and still is a major hub of business and trade, after all, it was through this city that capitalism came to Russia. But people are not attracted to St. Petersburg for business alone. This city of canals, known as the Venice of the North, is not just one of the most beautiful in the region but in the whole of Europe too. Its fine architecture, the Hermitage, the sense of history and the cultural life are a must for anyone who appreciates beauty, let alone the
unforgettable sight of nature at work during St. Peterburg’s White Nights…

In future you won’t have to spend long hours behind the wheel driving to St. Petersburg and worrying about the traffic police or the dark. And you won’t have to spend even longer in a not so comfortable bus or train. Now you can get to Russia’s northern capital St. Petersburg in around 1 hour and 35 minutes. What’s more, you can spend this time in a comfortable Fokker 50 aircraft.

There were no regular flights between these two cities for the last 50 years and that is why we are particularly pleased to offer business people, tourists, art lovers and everyone else the opportunity of travelling comfortably to St. Petersburg in a short time. Initially there will be four direct airBaltic flights a week from Riga to St. Petersburg on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. And the prices are very attractive – a one-way ticket will cost only LVL 49, including airport taxes.

Tickets may be purchased at airBaltic ticket counters or online at www.airbaltic.com as well as from your local travel agency. airBaltic has launched this route to St. Petersburg in co-operation (code share) with the Pulkovo airline, which is authorised to sell tickets for airBaltic flights from St. Petersburg to Riga.

airBaltic is the only airline providing regular flights between Riga and St. Petersburg.
