During this period, freight is booked into the system, checked by parameters, its route is planned and finally, starting with physical positioning in warehouse, the process of freight movement is initiated. Thus every airfreight shipment needs smooth and reliable physical handling before and after aircraft arrival. In Riga, as of February 1, 2001, airBaltic cargo is handled by the Baltic Cargo Centre, the airBaltic co-owned warehouse handling terminal. Baltic Cargo Centre (BCC) is the only heated warehouse at Riga International Airport providing storage facilities in winter at temperatures not less than +14C. The terminal also has cool storage facilities for temperature sensitive or perishable goods as well as a special area for dangerous goods and valuable cargo. This makes it possible for airBaltic Cargo to make all necessary arrangements to safeguard and protect special cargo during storage before and after arrival of the aircraft. In order to provide quality operation and efficient goods flow monitoring, services are available around-the-clock and currently the warehouse handles up to 27 flights a day. Airlines have duly recognised and appreciate the quality of BCC service. For example, the 2003 SAS Cargo Quality Award for stations outside Scandinavia was presented to BCC. BCC warehouse equipment, logistics, information and security systems as well as trained staff meet all the required operational standards and play key roles in helping airBaltic Cargo to develop a quality service and achieve the goals of our company and those of our customers. |
