airBaltic in motion

airBaltic has recently begun working with Latvia’s leading professional contemporary dance choreographer, Olga Žitluhina. Her dancers are currently taking part in the airBaltic advertising campaign, let’s fly...

Contemporary dance producer, Laura Stašāne, explains that Olga Žitluhina, who is known not only as a choreographer, but also as a dancer and teacher, is certainly up to the challenge. In 1996 Olga Žitluhina established her own dance company, essentially launching the development of contemporary dance in Latvia. In 1999 she created the first professional contemporary dance baccalaureate programme and in 2002 she directed the first contemporary ballet production for children, „Alise”, at the Latvian National Opera. Olga’s day-to-day work is divided between teaching at the Latvian Academy of Culture and the Riga School of Choreography, working together with theatre directors on new productions, and fulfilling her role as choreographer and dancer. She also manages to work outside Latvia, this year alone having taught dance in Norway, Finland and Austria. Olga also worked at a theatre in Tallinn, as well as undertaking a course of study in London.  It seems that dancing and flying are linked both on stage and off. In September her company went to a dance biennale in France where they were selected as the only representatives from this part of Europe.

This autumn Olga Žitluhina’s dance company has taken on some new recruits and will begin work towards its next dance project, due to premiere in Riga in the spring of 2004.
