Called the “warm city” after its many hot springs, Tbilisi straddles both the river Mtkvari and one of the ancient Silk Road routes from Asia into Europe. Home to the world-famous Rose Revolution and leader of Georgia’s subsequent drive towards the west, the city is proud of its landscape and historical buildings, including churches dating back as far as the sixth century AD, and the imposing Narikala Fortress, begun in the fourth century. Initially airBaltic will operate flights from Riga to Tbilisi twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The flight, in a Boeing 737 aircraft, takes 3 hours 30 minutes. The price of a one-way ticket starts at LVL 50.60 (EUR 72), including airport fees.
