Baltic Outlook

We all knew for a long time that EU-accession would be followed by price increases, so no one should be too surprised. That inflow of foreign capital, like from EU’s structural funds, would lead to both economic growth and inflation only follows expectations: this was the whole purpose of these funds in the first place.

Kurzeme – Natural Harmony
Latvia’s western region of Kurzeme stands apart. For centuries a kingdom of its own, the prosperous “Duchy of Kurzeme” (or “Kurland” in German) even had overseas colonies. The skills of local craftsmen produced the baroque masterpieces of the region’s churches, and the port city of Liepaja was a centre for shipbuilding. Later, at the turn of the twentieth century, forwardlooking Liepaja became the first city in the Russian Empire to have trams, and a regular passenger ferry linked it directly to New York. The city retains its adventurous, creative spirit today; while around Liepaja you can explore some of Latvia’s most beautiful coastlines and countryside. Hunt for amber on the white sandy beaches, and watch wild horses in the wild.
