The “E-Voucher”, sold at Rimi and Maxima supermarkets in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, was certainly a novel approach in the region for distributing airline tickets. It succeeded in bringing air travel even closer to the people, who could now buy air tickets together with everyday products like bread and milk. The cost of an E-Voucher was set at LVL 29/ LTL 149/ EEK 649, which covered the full price of a ticket, including all taxes and fees. After buying one, it could be exchanged for a one-way ticket on airBaltic’s website for almost all of the airline’s non-stop flights and was valid for travel until mid of March 2008 from Riga, Tallinn or Vilnius. The campaign gained huge interest and media publicity and in the first days of the campaign customers were standing in queues waiting for the supermarkets to open in the morning. Similar campaigns are now planned also for the future. |
