airBaltic in February carried 50% more passengers than last year

Riga, 13.03.2008

The Latvian airline airBaltic carried 143,572 passengers in February 2008, or 50% more than in the same month in 2007, when airBaltic transported 95,662 passengers.

During the first two months of 2008, airBaltic transported a total of 294,967 passengers, or 41% more than during the same period in 2007, when the total number of passengers was 208,528.

In February, airBaltic operated 3,125 flights, or 47% more than the 2,133 flights of February 2007. Between January and the end of February, the airline increased its number of flights by 41% over the same period in 2007 - up to 6,403 flights in all.

Cabin factor in February 2008 was at a level of 53%, or 1% points more than in February 2007. During the first two months of 2008 airline’s cabin factor was at a level of 52%.

The 15-minute flight punctuality indicator for airBaltic was at a level of 85.2% in February – 5% points more than in January. This means that more than 85 of every 100 airBaltic flights in February departed at the planned time or with a delay of no more than 15 minutes.

airBaltic president and CEO Bertolt Flick: “The airBaltic flight punctuality indicator is quite good against the background of other European airlines, but we are already looking for and implementing ways of improving the indicator. We have added a spare aircraft to replace any planes that have been delayed. This year we will add another spare airplane, and we will continue to work hard on improving procedures and controls at airports. It does have to be said that airspace and airports in Europe are so busy that it is increasingly difficult to improve punctuality indicators.”

According to the Association of European Airlines, airBaltic was the 8th most punctual European airline in 2007, with an indicator of 15-minute punctuality reaching 82.7%, or nearly 5% more than the European average (78.3%, with 62.5% being the lowest indicator). airBaltic flew 99.6% of planned flights in 2007, and that placed it in 4th place in Europe.
