airBaltic president Bertolt Flick: “For the eighth year in a row, our company’s core operations have been profitable. airBaltic has struck a balance between growth and profitability. Last year airBaltic saw a stable and consistent improvement in major operating indicators – passenger numbers, turnover and operating profits. We continued to invest in the company’s development, launched new routes to CIS and regions of Scandinavia." Major events for airBaltic in 2007: - In February, airBaltic opened an office in St. Petersburg;
- In April the airline added four new Boeing 737 airplanes to its fleet;
- In May, airBaltic launched scheduled flights from Liepaja to Copenhagen and Hamburg;
- In June, the airBalticcard Mobile prepaid mobile calling card was introduced;
- In July, airBaltic introduced Internet check-in;
- In September, the first of several routes from Vilnius to the East was launched – Vilnius-Chisinau;
- In September, airBaltic started training Boeing 737 pilots at a simulator at its home base in Riga;
- In October, airBaltic introduced E-vouchers – the first prepaid tickets in the Baltic States and Northern Europe; these were sold through supermarkets;
- In November, airBaltic expanded in its home market by opening an office in Daugavpils;
- In December, airBaltic congratulated its two millionth passenger in Vilnius, celebrating the fact that this was the first year in which the number of passengers exceeded 2 million.
In addition to its existing routes, airBaltic is offering new routes during the 2008 summer season – to Venice, Nice, Aalesund, Billund, Sochi, Yerevan, Chisinau, Almaty,Kuopio and Ventspils. The airline also increased the number of flights to Berlin, Paris, Rome, Oulu, Vilnius, Tallinn, Tbilisi, Odessa, Liepaja and other destinations.
