New Council for airBaltic

Shareholders of the stock company airBaltic Corporation chose a new council on April 6.

The new members are Edmunds Krastiņš, Arnis Muižnieks, Daiga Falkane, Ilmārs Razumovskis, and Jean-Charles Korsak.  The latter two men represent the second largest shareholder in airBaltic, SIA Baltijas Aviācijas Sistēmas. 

The council chairperson and deputy chairperson will be chosen at the new council’s first meeting.

Edmunds Krastiņš, Arnis Muižnieks and Ilmārs Razumovskis were also members of the previous council, along with Inga Pelša and Krišjānis Peters. Edmunds Krastiņš was the former council’s chairman.

The new council members

Ilmārs Razumovskis holds a doctorate in economics and has been a member of the airBaltic council since February 19, 2008. He is working in the area of transportation (a board member at SIA Jaks) and finances (board chairman of SIA Biznesa Oāze). He has also been a member of the councils of SIA Latvijas Mobilais Telefons and AS Latvijas Krājbanka. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering Economics of the Riga Polytechnic Institute.

Jean-Charles Korsak, a citizen of Luxembourg, is Head of Project and Technology Evaluation  within the Future Projects Office of Airbus.  Mr. Korsak worked on various assignments on airline restructuring and privatization. He has an extensive experience in aircraft life cycle cost and provides an intimate knowledge of the very latest developments in aviation industry. Mr. Korsak has worked for Pace Aerospace Engineering and Information Technology GmbH as business development director, and he is a graduate of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the Berlin Technical University.

Edmunds Krastiņš is a well-known economist who has been a member of the airBaltic council since 1995. He also is a board member for the Union of Economists 2010, a board member of the Freeport of Riga, a board member of the Nordic Investment Bank, and a member of the European Union’s Committee of Regions. Mr Krastiņš was chairman of the council at AS Latvijas Unibanka from 1993 until 1998 and its vice president in 1998 and 1999), and in 1999 and 2000 he served as Latvia’s finance minister. He is a graduate of the Department of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Latvia, where he specialised in applied mathematics.

Arnis Muižnieks is the long serving head of the Aviation Department of Latvia’s Transportation Ministry and has been a member of the airBaltic council since 1995. He is also council chairman of the state stock company Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme and has served on the council of the Riga International Airport. Mr Muižnieks is a pilot by profession and used to work for Aeroflot. He is a graduate of the Civil Aviation Academy of Leningrad (now St Petersburg), where he specialised in operations of aircraft.

Daiga Falkane is a professional in the tourist industry. She offers marketing services in relation to Latvia as a travel destination and seeks to attract foreign tourists as deputy director of the State Tourism Development Agency, where she previously served as head of marketing. Ms Falkane holds a master’s degree in management from the University of Latvia.
