What's that for?

Seats.
airBaltic's seats are made by German company Recaro. If the name seems familiar it's probably because Recaro is famous for making seats for racing cars and their expertise in the manufacture of safe and stylish seats is second to none.

Recaro even won the "Oscars" of the aircraft interior industry, the Crystal Cabin Award, in 2009 for its new CL3620 seat which was then put on display at London's Serpentine Art Gallery as an example of the best in modern industrial design.

airBaltic's seats are the Recaro BL3510 model. Every seat meets rigorous safety standards covering strength, fire protection and electrical protection, certified by the Luftfahrtbundesamt, the German Airworthiness Authority.

They have a lightweight modular construction designed using computeraided stress analysis that means they can cope with loads of up to 16 times the force of gravity. airBaltic's seats are leather because they are more comfortable, easier to clean and get even better with age.

A standard set of three seats is 150 cm wide, 114 cm tall and weighs around 35 kilos, excluding cushions and additional equipment such as life vests. Seats don't just provide comfort. They also play an important role in absorbing sounds to reduce cabin noise.

airBaltic has renewed all the seats on its fleet, ensuring the cabin interior meets the highest standards. The use of more modern materials during the renewal helped save around 100 kilos per aircraft on average, reducing fuel
consumption and emissions on every flight and helping the environment.

If you find your in-flight seat particularly comfortable, you might consider buying it. While airBaltic won't let you walk off the aircraft with your seat, in recent years a sizeable online market has developed for decommissioned airline seats which people buy to use as stylish furniture.
