Baggage transportation

On airBaltic flights we accept hand baggage and checked-in baggage of certain dimensions.

HAND BAGGAGE

For safety and convenience of you and your fellow passengers, each passenger (except infants) is allowed 2 pieces of hand baggage (Business class) or 1 piece of hand baggage with an 8 kg weight limit (Economy class). Hand baggage must be stowed under the seat in front of passenger or in the locker above passenger seat. The overall dimensions of hand baggage may not exceed 50x40x23 cm. A passenger with reduced mobility is allowed to bring auxiliary devices into the aircraft cabin, provided that safety rules are not violated.

CHECKED-IN BAGGAGE

Business class – not more than 3 pieces of checked-in baggage allowed with total weight for all baggage pieces up to 30 kg, free of charge. 

Economy Flex class - not more than 1 piece of checked-in baggage allowed with total weight up to 20 kg, free of charge. 

Economy class – when paying for baggage on airBaltic.com there is a fee of EUR 15 per one way of travel for every checked-in baggage piece with total weight limit for all baggage pieces up to 20 kg. In other sales channels there is baggage check-in fee of EUR 20 per bag/per one way of travel for non-BalticMiles members or EUR 15 per bag/per one way of travel for BalticMiles members with total weight limit for all baggage pieces up to 20 kg.

Please note that buying additional checked-in baggage pieces does not increase weight allowance. If you didn’t pay for baggage during ticket booking process, please use our "Pay for baggage" service.

If you take baggage with a weight above your allowance you will have to pay an extra charge at the price EUR 15 per 1 kg on each flight segment. If your checked-in baggage allowance exceeds pieces and weight allowed, both fees will be applied simultaneously. Extra weight fees are collected at airBaltic ticket offices only. Please note that baggage allowance for several passengers (e.g. family) does not sum up.
  
Corporate customers travelling in Economy (B) class may have 2 pieces of checked-in baggage with total weight for all baggage pieces up to 20 kg free of charge. 
 
Infants may have 1 piece of checked-in baggage up to 10kg and 1 fully collapsible stroller / pushchair free of charge.

One passenger can check in up to 8 baggage pieces. Maximum weight of one checked-in baggage piece is 32 kg. 
 
Fee paid for baggage transportation is non-refundable. If flight is operated by other carrier (flight number begins with SK or any other code and not BT, or other airline code is displayed in brackets next to flight number), other baggage transportation rules may apply. Therefore we kindly ask you to contact airBaltic call centre or send an e-mail to reservations@airbaltic.com to find out baggage rules applicable in your case.

On Intercontinental flights (e.g. flights to USA or Canada) certain number of bags with certain weight limit is allowed free of charge. If the ticket contains Intercontinental flight(s) then airBaltic baggage fees are not applicable. Number of bags and weight limit allowed free of charge is determined by the transporting carrier of the Intercontinental flight. We kindly ask you to contact airBaltic call centre for detailed information about free baggage allowance for your itinerary.

You must not include in your checked-in baggage fragile items, such as glasses, foodstuffs, perishable items, items of a special value, such as money, keys, prescribed medicine, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, or samples, jewelry, precious metals, personal electronic/electrical devices, such as cameras, computers, cellular telephones and musical instruments.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT

Bicycle
One bicycle per passenger is accepted if the pedals are removed and handle-bar is turned. On each flight, only a limited number of bicycles can be accepted for transportation. Bicycles intended for transportation have to be declared in advance. Business class passengers one bicycle may transport free of charge. Economy class passengers pay EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum weight allowance 32 kg.
 
Diving equipment
Business class passengers one diving set may transport free of charge. Economy class passengers pay EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum weight allowance 32 kg.
 
Golf equipment
Business class passengers one golf set consisting of a golf bag, 14 golf-clubs, 12 golf balls, and golf shoes may transport free of charge. Economy class passengers pay EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum weight allowance 32 kg. 
  
Skiing/snowboard equipment
Business class passengers one skiing/snowboarding set
1) skis, ski boots and ski sticks, or
2) snowboard boots and a snowboard
may transport free of charge.
Economy class passengers pay EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum weight allowance 32 kg.
 
Fishing equipment
Set of fishing equipment consists of one rod, one angler bag and one bait box. Suitable packaging required.
Business class passengers one fishing equipment may transport free of charge.
Economy class passengers pay EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum weight allowance 32 kg.

OTHER SPECIAL BAGGAGE

Pram
Transporting is free of charge if the reservation contains an infant (up to 2 years old). A folding pram is not included in total baggage allowance.

Wheelchair
A wheelchair if it is required for movement of a passenger is transported without any additional charge. 

Cello, other musical instruments and fragile items
The musical instrument cello, other musical instruments and fragile items may be accepted for carriage in the cabin and will be placed in seat next to passenger. Maximum weight of item may not exceed 32kg and overall dimensions are limited to following:

  • cello 35x50x150cm (Boeing flight) or 35x40x135cm (Fokker flight);
  • other items 43x45x95cm (Boeing flight) or 42x43x85cm (Fokker flight).

Tickets for cello, other musical instruments and fragile items can be bought at airBaltic ticket offices or travel agencies only and together with adult passenger ticket. Cello with adult ticket booked via internet won't be accepted for carriage. If you need to transport cello, other musical instruments or fragile items please contact an airBaltic ticket office or your local travel agency.

Small fragile items, musical instruments, which do not need an extra seat, may be allowed to take on board as extra hand baggage for special fee of EUR 30 (if paying for baggage and ticket together) or EUR 40 (if paying for baggage separately) per one way of travel. Maximum 1 extra hand baggage per passenger is allowed, weight of item may not exceed 8 kg and overall dimensions are limited to 50x40x23 cm and even if passenger has paid for an extra hand baggage to take on board, check-in agent reserves the right to limit hand baggage to minimum.

Bulky items, musical instruments, child/infant car type seats etc. which do not qualify for hand baggage are are included in total baggage allowance. Fee of EUR 15 per each excess baggage kg above allowance is applicable. Bulky items should be requested at airBaltic ticket offices in advance. Maximum weight for each item is 32 kg.

If you want to transport some special baggage (egg. other sports equipment, weapons, other music instruments etc.) not mentioned here please contact airBaltic ticket offices or representatives for more detailed information.

Fee paid for baggage transportation is non-refundable.

Due to limited space in each aircraft for transporting special baggage you are kindly asked to agree transportation of any special baggage item with us in advance. Please, contact airBaltic ticket offices or representatives.

TRANSPORTATION NOT ALLOWED

For safety reasons, the following articles or materials may not be carried in passenger baggage:

  • gases - (compressed, deeply refrigerated, flammable, non flammable, poisonous) such as camping gas, butane, oxygen liquid nitrogen, compressed gas cylinders, aqualung cylinders, aerosols;
  • corrosives - such as acids, alkalis, wet cell batteries, mercury and apparatus containing mercury;
  • explosives - munitions, fireworks and flares, firearms, handguns, ammunition including blank cartridges, pistol caps;
  • flammable liquids and solids - such as lighter fuel or refills, paints, thinners, matches, lighters that need inverting before ignition and other articles which are easily ignited; substances liable to spontaneous combustion; substances which on contact with water emit flammable gases;
  • radioactive materials;
  • briefcases and security type attaché cases - with installed alarm devices; or incorporating lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;
  • oxidising substances - such as bleaching powder and peroxides;
  • poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances - such as insecticides, weedkillers and live virus materials;
  • other dangerous articles.

Security rules about carrying liquids from Non-Schengen countries.
You are not permitted to carry any liquids or gel-type products purchased at airports outside the European Union when you pass through security checks at EU airports during transfers between flights or during waits between flights.
