Travelling between Schengen and non-Schengen countries
When travelling from a non-Schengen to a Schengen country, a valid passport (for some passengers - national identity card, please check “From a Schengen to non-Schengen country”) and a Schengen visa (if required) should be presented. You must be able to present printed travel medical insurance on request.
When travelling from non-Schengen country to Schengen country via Riga, Border Guards of the Latvia in Riga airport will be the ones, who will perform Schengen border crossing control for passengers with final destination in Latvia or travelling further to any Schengen country. Therefore you may wish to visit the website of the State Border Guard of the Latvia for more precise Schengen border crossing information when travelling from nonSchengen countries to Riga or via Riga to other Schengen country.
Please also note that when travelling from a country outside Schengen, European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland to Schengen countries passenger information, including travel document data must be submitted by the airline to the Latvia’s governmental authorities.
Passengers who travel from a Schengen to a non-Schengen country will be asked to provide a valid passport and a visa (if required) depending on the destination of travel. If you are citizen of Schengen, European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland, you might also be able to travel to some countries outside Schengen area with national ID card only. For Schengen citizens travelling to countries in Eastern Europe and Asia (e.g. Russia, Tajikistan) a valid visa usually needs to be arranged prior to departure. For some of the countries electronic visa is available or even mandatory, like Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Australia, Sri Lank, Bahrain, Cambodia etc.
